The most common cause of performance loss in late-model diesel engines is clogging of the intake manifold with oil-vapour build-up. Oil vapours enter through the crankcase breather system and accumulate in the intake, eventually restricting airflow — the breather hose should never be pinched or plugged, as this can cause major oil leaks. We recommend a thorough intake clean every 50,000 km to prevent performance degradation.
Symptoms of a contaminated intake system include power loss, poor throttle response, high fuel consumption, increased emissions, hard starting and uneven idling.
